Continuing a Father’s Legacy

Nina Barrios wanted to continue her father’s legacy of giving back to the community.  Ms. Barrios, President of Barrios Concrete Ornaments, donated a Grecian Table Grouping to the Cobequid Community Health Centre Foundation to be raffled.  The grouping consists of a table and three benches made of poured concrete and worth $650.

Barrios Concrete Ornaments opened in 1979 by Ms. Barrios’ father. He ran the business in Halifax for 28 years and when he retired, the passion for making the various products was still there. Nina bought the business and moved it to Lower Sackville so she had more space.

"After 28 years in my previous location, I thought that by donating the Grecian Table, people would realize where I moved to," says Nina Barrios, "and at the same time I would be supporting a great cause in the community."

The winning ticket was drawning July 2, 2008 at the Cobequid Community Health Centre.  Winner, Claude Shears of Porter's Lake is now enjoying his table.  A special thank you to everyone who purchased tickets.
