May is a special month for the Cobequid Foundation. This year, we launched May Month, during which we partner with groups and organisations in our community in order to continuously improve the service here at the Cobequid Health Centre. During the month of May, the Foundation encouraged local groups and businesses to organise different fundraisers to support enhancements to the Emergency Department in the Health Centre. Many different clubs, groups, schools and individuals stepped forward.
Here at the Cobequid, we shared cake with patients and staff at the Centre to celebrate all that our Health Centre does for the community. We had a barbeque one sunny afternoon in the front parking lot and raised almost $900 in three hours with the help of Scotiabank, who matched the donations we received.
Thank you to the many community groups, businesses and individuals who made our Cobequid Month a success.
Each year, the Cobequid Foundation awards a $1000 bursary to a graduating student from Lockview High School, Millwood High School, Charles P. Allen High School and Sackville High School. The student must be pursuing a post secondary education in the health care field.
The bursary was created in recognition of the outstanding contribution that the Students' Councils from each of the four schools made to the capital campaign to build the new Health Centre on Freer Lane.
Our recipients this year are:
Lewis Jenkins, Sackville High School.
Alana Currie, Lockview High School.
Haylee Marche, Millwood High School.
Anna Negulic, Charles P. Allen High School.
The Gift of Light Tree Ceremony will be held Tuesday, December 6th and is going to be a great night for all!
Cobequid Foundation's Gift of Light truly captures the spirit of the season and gives donors an opportunity to honour a loved one. Year after year, we are humbled by the generosity of our donors who not only make a difference in the lives or those being honoured on our tree, but also in the lives of patients and their families seeking care at the Cobequid Community Health Centre.
For every light the shines, a warm memory is close at hand!
